Letter: No need for yellow markings on roads

Letter: Bravo councillors Peter Phillips and Miranda Stanley, and what a nonsense reply from the county council.

Basically, no-one in the town takes any notice of the various yellow lines.

Bishop's Castle people park where it makes sense. Even if someone does park inconveniently at the top of town, all we have to do is go to a pub, the takeaway or a shop to ask the person to move. Problem solved.

To have yellow lines on both sides of the road, at the top of Union Street for example, is a nonsense. No-one parks there as you can only just get a car through.

All the yellow lines do is to make a blot on the landscape in the conservation area and add to confusion as they simply do not make sense.

Does the assistant director for environmental services really think that the elected representatives in Bishop's Castle are not able to make a decision like this? We vote for local councillors so that we have elected representatives to make these decisions on our behalf. Unelected officers should not have the final say in matters like this.

On a similar issue, what about the bollard that the council put in the middle of the pavement? I know councillor Jane Carroll has been trying to get this removed ever since it went in.

Come on county councillors, let local elected representatives make decisions on matters about which they know and have experience. If we do not like the result we can vote them out next time.
