Police issue security warning
North Shropshire residents are being warned to be on their guard against bogus callers claiming to be selling security alarms on behalf of the police.
West Mercia Police said today they do not call people offering to sell merchandise and are warning people not to be duped by the bogus callers.
The warning follows several reports where members of the public in the Whitchurch area have reported receiving such calls.
Police in Whitchurch say the callers are attempting to scam people out of £200 by offering for the alarms to be fitted.
Richard Ewels, spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "It would seem these are bogus calls and have nothing to do with the force.
"We do not call people offering to sell merchandise."
Police Constable Karena Evans, the local police officer for Whitchurch, said: "I have been approached by several people with concerns as they have been receiving telephone calls purporting to be from West Mercia Police.
"They have been led to believe that the caller is from the police and is offering alarms to be fitted.
"They are then asked to pay more than £200 for the service.
"People should be aware that such calls have nothing to do with the police and should not become involved."
