Daniel Kawczynski, MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham, has written to Dr John Davies, chairman of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust, about the replacement of Tom Taylor, who announced last month he is stepping down.
Mr Kawczynski said someone with "knowledge of the area" should take up the post as they would be best placed to relate to residents.
He said: "I have written to ask what the policy will be for choosing the next chief executive for the hospital trust.
"I'm very keen that they are appointed as quickly as possible as I don't want a long period of time where we don't know who is going to take over. I'm keen for someone to tell us the selection process so they can ensure someone who will be even-handed between Shrewsbury and Telford."
Mr Taylor has been chief executive of the body which runs the Royal Shrewsbury and Telford's Princess Royal since 2005.
Mr Kawczynski's letter to Mr Davies states: "I would very much like to see a Salopian or someone with extensive knowledge of our area take the position, in order that they will be able to best relate to my constituents that they will be serving."
John Davies, Trust chairman, today said they were "well advanced" with the recruitment process.
