Burglars attempted to smash their way into the Craven Arms branch of the HSBC bank during the early hours of the morning.

The back door of the bank in Corvedale Road, Craven Arms, was damaged in the attempted burglary yesterday.

Richard Ewels, West Mercia police spokesman, said: "There was an attempted burglary at the HSBC bank in Corvedale Road, Craven Arms, yesterday.

"The bank's alarm sounded at 1.25am. Police attended and found an exterior door had been damaged.

"No entry was gained and the police are appealing for witnesses or any information which might help their inquiry."

A spokesman for HSBC confirmed the incident had taken place but said police were investigating and they could not make any further comment.
