Three people were taken to hospital today after two smashes on roads in the region.

Two people had to be freed by firefighters after an accident close to the south Shropshire border left them trapped in their vehicle.

They were taken to the Royal Worcester Hospital after the incident on the A4117 at Lem Hill near Cleobury Mortimer at 12.30am.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Claire Thomas said they appeared to have suffered minor injuries in the accident outside the Horse and Jockey pub.

She said: "We had two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and a senior paramedic on the scene.

"There were two patients. Both were extricated and both appeared to have suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Royal Worcester Hospital."

Crews from Cleobury Mortimer and Hereford and Worcester were called to the scene along with the incident commander from Shrewsbury.

Meanwhile a motorcyclist was taken to Telford's Princess Royal Hospital with a leg injury after an accident in Holyhead Road Oakengates, Telford, earlier today.

The man, who was in his 40s, was riding along the road shortly after 7.30am when he is believed to have fallen from his motorbike.

Police said that the accident near the Peartree Bridge Inn had involved a motorbike and a van and left the road blocked.
