Summer of fun lined up across the region
Preparations are under way for a host of events across the region this summer guaranteed to warm the hearts of fun-seekers. From the north to the south and from east to west, organisers are gearing up for a string of attractions offering something for everyone. In Telford & Wrekin, the borough council will be staging its third annual CultureFest on July 24 in Telford Town Park. Weston Park near Telford will again be the host of the giant V Festival music extravaganza from August 21 to 22, featuring headliners Kings of Leon, Kasabian, The Prodidgy, Cheryl Cole, The Charlatans, the Pet Shop Boys, Paul Weller and Stereophonics. The house and gardens at Weston Park will also be open to the public from May 29 to August 17 and from August 26 to September 5.
The Museum of Iron in Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge, will be hosting the Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival from July 10 to 20 while the famous RAF Cosford Air Show is on June 13.
Cosford will also be host to the Large Model Aircraft Rally from July 17 to 18.
In the south of the county, this summer will be the 51st Ludlow Festival, from June 26 to July 11, and see the return of director Ben Crocker to direct the flagship Shakespeare play in Ludlow Castle, this year's production being Othello.
The Church Stretton and South Shropshire Arts Festival will run from July 25 to August 7 while Church Stretton Summer Fest will be on June 19.
This year's Clun Carnival and Show is on August 7.
In Shrewsbury, this year's Quarry Concerts will take place on July 9 and 10, with a grand firework finale.
This year's Shrewsbury Flower Show is on August 13 and 14.
The Quarry is the backdrop for the two-day summer extravaganza. Another event is the new Shropshire Show, which came to existence following the demise of the West Mid Show.
The first re-branded show is scheduled to take place on June 26 and 27.Other events in the town will include the Macmillan World Championship Coracle Relay Race on June 19 at Pengwern Boat Club, and the Dragon Boat Race on August 30.
The Shrewsbury Regatta is on May 15 and 16. Llangollen International Eisteddfod – which will be opened by Katherine Jenkins – runs from July 5 to 11 at the Royal International Pavilion, Oswestry Show is on August 7 and the OsFest music festival is from May 29 to 30 at Oswestry Showground.
Oswestry Food and Drink Festival is from July 10 to 11.
