A lorry carrying a trailer of rubbish flipped over at a busy Shropshire roundabout today, causing rush-hour delays for motorists.

Rubbish was left strewn across the road at the Jiggers Bank roundabout in Ironbridge following the incident at about 8.10am.

Queues developed during rush hour as police diverted traffic around the lorry.

Chris Ammonds, spokesman for Telford police, said: "There was a big trailer on the back of the lorry which was full of rubbish and some of it has gone onto the road.

"The lorry was coming from the direction of Madeley and it appears it attempted to go around the roundabout and overturned."

John Hawker, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said one man had been taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and it was believed he suffered minor injuries.

A fire crew from Tweedale also attended the scene.

David Morgan, a spokesman for Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "We have some people on the scene helping with the clean-up because it is a bit of a mess on the road."
