A £40,000 scheme to repair a Shropshire bridge should be complete by the end of the month, bosses said today - nearly six months after it began.

Work on the 100-year-old Minsterley Bridge, near Shrewsbury, started on February 15 with a programme of repairs to help strengthen the structure.

It is now nearing completion and the bridge is expected to reopen to traffic at the end of June.

But residents and businesses are set to face more misery before the work can be completed as it will be necessary to close the B4387 on two occasions.

The first road closure, which is programmed to happen between 7.30am and 5pm on Sunday is needed to enable a temporary road bridge to be removed from alongside Minsterley Bridge.

From June 21 to 25 and June 28 and 29 Minsterley Bridge, and the B4387 from the bridge to the Horsebridge Road Roundabout, will be closed to traffic from 9am until 4pm.

This is for the road to be resurfaced.
