Whitchurch nightclub put up for sale

A controversial Shropshire nightclub has been put up for sale for more than £250,000 just months after a licensing review following complaints by residents.
The Club in Green End, Whitchurch, is also available to let after its former bosses were forced to attend the review in Wem following concerns over noise and disorder at the premises.
They were allowed to keep their licence, but were required to fit double doors to stop noise escaping and bothering residents.
Former licensee Liane Dooley said the reasons for her surrendering the licence were due to falling numbers which she blames on the smoking ban and supermarkets selling cheap alcohol rather than the review.
"A lot of pubs in Whitchurch have closed recently due to lack of trade and falling numbers and we were no different," she said.
"The smoking ban started the ball rolling, which was then followed by more supermarkets selling cheap alcohol and in the end we just couldn't compete.
"It is sad, but Whitchurch town centre has lost any kind of atmosphere in the evenings."
Mike Bate, of Whitchurch Chamber of Trade, said the closure was unsurprising as the town was "still struggling from the recession".
December's review was sparked by claims The Club was operating in a way that could "undermine the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety and public nuisance".
