The woman, who has not been named, was taken to the Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth after the crash on the A470 between Llanidloes and Newtown.

The crash happened yesterday shortly after 3.50pm near Llandinam.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said one casualty was released from a Vauxhall Corsa by firefighters before being taken to hospital.

A spokesman said: "Firefighters from Llanidloes and Newtown attended the scene and one casualty was released from their vehicle by the crews.

"We then made the vehicles safe."

The Welsh Ambulance Service said it sent two ambulances, first responders and the air ambulance from Welshpool to the scene after receiving 999 calls.

Inspector Stuart Eckley, of Dyfed-Powys Police, said the force was appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

He said: "At 3.50pm yesterday, a road traffic collision occurred when a Vauxhall Corsa and a Dennis school bus collided near Llandinam.

"None of the children travelling on the bus were injured and the driver of the Corsa was treated for minor injuries at the scene by the ambulance crew.

"Newtown police are appealing for witnesses to this collision to contact them on 101, if they are phoning from Wales, or 0845 3302000 if they are phoning from elsewhere."
