A new zebra crossing is to be installed in Wem next month in a bid to stop motorists speeding through the centre.
Shropshire Council has agreed to install the crossing in Wem's High Street, opposite the Town Hall.
It is part of a wider scheme to reduce the speed limit in Wem in an effort to improve road safety.
The scheme also includes implementing a 20mph zone for traffic passing through the town.
Council officials are putting together a detailed design for the 20mph restriction.
The reduced speed restriction zone is expected to encircle the town centre, starting from near Thomas Adams' School House at the western end of High Street and all along its length.
Wem Town Council expressed strong support for the speed restriction and, following a consultation carried out this year, no objections were raised.
Laura Owen, a Shropshire Council spokeswoman, said: "A zebra crossing will be installed opposite the Town Hall on High Street in Wem during the first two weeks in August.
"This crossing forms part of a wider scheme to increase signage and introduce a 20mph speed limit in the town centre.
"Consultation for this scheme was carried out in the spring."
