People in Cleobury Mortimer have reacted with horror after a former factory site was bought by a housing developer - next to an area where more than 100 homes are already due to be built.

The former JAG Glazing site has been bought by Bovis Homes and demolition work to clear the area is due to start in the next few weeks.

Company bosses have said there would be an "open consideration" of the site's "development potential".

But the news has been met with dismay by residents, who are already being affected by dust from demolition work at the nearby Muller England site.

Bovis Homes is building 92 homes on the Muller site while Marches Housing Association will build 16 homes on an adjacent site near Vaughan's Road.

Kevin Mayall, who lives on Hartmann Close immediately behind the site, said: "We have had a letter from Shropshire Council and we also know that work is going to start demolishing the factory and warehouse in the next three to four weeks.

"We would be very worried if more homes were going to be built there."

Scott Curtis, a spokesman for Bovis Homes, said: "We have made parish and district councillors aware of our purchase of the former JAG site in Cleobury Mortimer and will continue to keep them informed of our plans for the area.

"At this stage we see this as an acquisition that will support our development of 92 homes on the adjacent piece of land."
