The High Court today ruled that Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper, must spend the rest of his life in custody.

Ex-Bradford lorry driver Sutcliffe, 64, now known as Peter Coonan, was convicted in 1981 of murdering 13 women and attempting to murder seven others.

He received 20 life sentences and is detained at Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital in Berkshire.
