He could consider a boat service by Mississippi-style paddle steamers. The channel by the Bylet island, Bridgnorth, is an ideal anchorage, the old bridge could be converted to a swingbridge and boats fuelled by coal from the new opencast mine at Little Wenlock.

Consideration is being given to park and ride in Bridgnorth; this could become a hot air balloon terminus for a service to and from Ironbridge.

Even better; a ski lift-type structure running along the centre of the river. This may be a hindrance for the Ironbridge and Bridgnorth regattas but would be cheaper to run and eco friendly if powered by a wind farm on the Long Mynd or solar panels on The Wrekin.

Councillor Carter must persevere with the project, the possibilities are endless. With so many British companies being taken over by overseas organisations we should rise to the challenge, perhaps a camel train service via Sutton Maddock.

John Mayne, Bridgnorth
