A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries from a three-vehicle crash near Whitchurch in one of a spate of crashes across the region.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the accident, which happened about 7.10pm last night on the A525 Whitchurch to Wrexham Road, near its junction with the A41.

A red BMW car, a blue Mercedes hatchback and an orange Suzuki motorcycle were involved.

The male rider suffered serious chest and head injuries and was airlifted to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. His female pillion passenger suffered rib, chest and leg injuries and was taken to a hospital in Crewe.

The male driver of the Mercedes was treated at the scene for shock and his female passenger went to hospital with a back injury.

Constable Andy Burrell said: "At this time, it is believed the BMW was stationary and waiting to turn right into the marina. A collision has occurred with the Mercedes, which then ended up in the opposite carriageway and was in collision with the motorcycle."
