A developer has unveiled fresh plans for homes on a field in Market Drayton just months after he withdrew a controversial bid for another housing scheme in the face of widespread opposition.
Andrew Davies, Shropshire Council member for Cheswardine, has applied to the council to build 10 "eco homes" in Banky Field, off Walkmill Road, Market Drayton.
Last year he tabled a bid to build 57 homes on the site, but withdrew the plans after residents formed an action group and put signs in their gardens opposing the project.
About 700 people also signed a petition against the scheme and conservation bosses at English Heritage were also critical.
Under the new plans Councillor Davies wants to build "eco homes", estate roads and parking spaces for cars and bicycles.
A design and access statement in support of his application says: "The proposal seeks to meet the need for development in Market Drayton due to the pressure and demand for housing.
"The site is in a sustainable location with good access."
Because the site is also south-facing, many of the "eco homes" will be able to install solar panels, it adds.
A consultation period on the plans ends on August 12 and Shropshire Council is aiming to make its decision by August 18.
