Letter: Parking in Ellesmere? What are we paying for?

Letter: What possible benefit can there be in charging to park in Ellesmere?
The savings the council talks of will be cancelled out by the cost of implementing it. Firstly, there is a meeting with coffee and biscuits, expensive, unnecessary bottled water and much paperwork. One meeting might not be enough.
Secondly, there will be site meetings with surveyors and consultants.
Thirdly, will be the cost of the machinery to issue the tickets and the cost of people to empty them and mend them.
Fourthly, there will be the cost of "policing" overstays.
All this costs money. Just supposing nobody ever stayed over their ticket limit. The whole fiasco is a total waste of time and money.
It might bring in peanuts while costing a fortune. The bad effects on the town of Ellesmere could be disastrous, then much more money would be lost to businesses and therefore the council.
The town would no longer feel a friendly welcoming place and would cause inconvenience to residents and visitors alike. If everywhere has to be the same there is no point in going anywhere.
