Man trapped under tractor in freak accident

A TRACTOR ROLLED down a hill in Shropshire and ploughed into a man at the bottom, leaving him trapped underneath.

The victim, who is believed to be a gamekeeper in his 40s, was airlifted to hospital with a possible fractured pelvis and internal injuries after the incident in Monkhopton at about 2.20pm on Saturday.

It was one of a number of accidents that happened across the region over the weekend.

Suzie Fothergill, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "On arrival at the scene crews found a man injured after it is believed a tractor had rolled over him.

"According to reports it had rolled down the hill and collided with the man and the fence at the bottom before completely rolling over the man."

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire Service said the man, who was airlifted to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, had been freed from underneath the tractor before firefighters arrived.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist who was in collision with a car was airlifted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with a serious foot injury after a smash which occurred on the A525 near Whitchurch at about 3.45pm yesterday.

The man, who is believed to be in his 40s, also suffered an arm injury.

Suzie Fothergill said the man was treated on scene before being taken to hospital.

In Telford a man in his 20s was taken to Princess Royal Hospital after the car he was driving veered off the road and struck a lamppost.

The man, who was believed to be on his way to work, lost control of the car at the Tweedale Interchange and junction of the A442 and A4169 in Telford,at just before 10am yesterday.

Fire crews spent 20 minutes cutting the man, who was complaining of back and neck, out of the car.

Tweedale fire station crew manager Craig Jackson said that the driver was taken to hospital by ambulance.

And a motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries after colliding with a car on the A458 from Welshpool to Shrewsbury at Cefn Bridge, near Welshpool, shortly after 12.15pm yesterday.
