Water supplies in a village near Whitchurch have been severely disrupted because of a serious leak. The problem affected up to 100 residents in Bettisfield.

They had to put up with their water supply being switched off for periods of up to five hours following a leak near the village hall.

It is thought the problem has been caused by a burst water main.

Officials from Dee Valley Water have returned to the village at least twice to try to sort out the problem, and are expected back there again in the next week.

Nobody from Dee Valley Water was available to comment today.

Resident Phil Jones, who is also a community councillor, said: "The water problems have been very frustrating over the last few weeks. It has affected a lot of people because the leak has occurred by the village hall, where a lot of our water comes through.

"Water pressure has been really low and when people from Dee Valley Water have been to repair it, which has been at least twice, we have had no water at all for hours.

"I am not sure if they know what the problem is but they are due to come back again because the trench is still there where the leak is. To be fair to the water company they have been good at informing us of what is going on."

Another resident John Blanchard said: "The water has gone off a couple of times for up to five hours which has been frustrating."

He added: "As long as people keep us informed with what is going on so we can store some water it isn't so bad, especially to make a cup of tea."

Dee Valley Water supplies water to approximately 258,000 customers in Chester, north east Wales and north west England.
