Shropshire's Burwarton Show - pictures and results

It was an almost perfect day for what the organisers billed as "one of the top five visitor attractions" in Shropshire.

The sun shone for most of the day as thousands of people turned out the Burwarton Show yesterday. There was plenty to enjoy in terms of sideshows, music and stalls as well as the traditional livestock and horse events. People came from all over the county for the one-day event.

Nigel Cane-Honeysett, from Telford, said: "We came for the first time last year.

"It's been brilliant. We rather enjoyed the heavy horses and the little ones.

"Based on this year and last year, we would definitely come again."

Maureen Chidley, of Ludlow, said: "We used to come every year. Then we had the kids and this is the first time we've come with them. It would be helpful if there was a section in the programme highlighting children's activities. That's just first impressions, but it does look quite a nice set up."

Mandy and John Furber came from Montgomery.

Mandy said: "We came as a family for the first time last year. It's been a good event. Our son Mikey likes the fun rides and he and our daughter Margaret both like the animals."

Valerie Elcock, of Sedgeley near Bridgnorth was there with her three grandsons. She said: "We've just seen the shire horses which we adore."

Ashley Elcock, 11, said: "The animals are my favourite. I like the cows the best and I liked watching the sheep being sheared."

His brothers Alex, eight, and Spencer, seven, liked the horses and sheep shearing.

Emily Leith, of Bridgnorth, said: "This is my first time at the show, I just came to have a look around. I think it's great and would definitely come again."

Gill Matthews, of Worfield, said: "We've enjoyed watching the sheep dog trials, we've just watched the Scots Guards :and we've been round the tents looking at all the exhibitors."

Derek Payne, of Richards Castle near Ludlow, was a judge in the Working Hunter Ponies section. He said while numbers were down slightly he happy with the standard of entry and had enjoyed the show.
