Work on an £8 million leisure centre in Oswestry which ground to a halt when a building firm went into liquidation will start again on Monday.

The construction of the Oswald Park leisure centre stopped in January when contractors, Frank Galliers, ceased trading overnight.

The "healthy living" centre, which is sited just off the Shrewsbury road at one of the main gateways into Oswestry, has stood half built for more than six months.

Shropshire Council said today that a new contractor was due to start work at the site on Monday.

Spokesman Simon Alton said Graham Construction had been appointed.

Councillor Keith Barrow, council leader and member for Oswestry South, said: "I'm delighted that work will be starting again on this very important development."
