A former Chinese restaurant could soon become Shrewsbury's first dedicated Spanish restaurant under new plans.
Alfonso Yufera-Ruiz, who already runs tapas restaurant Casa Ruiz in Bridgnorth with his partner Emma Lisk, has applied for a premises licence for the former Lee's Garden site in Barracks Passage, Wyle Cop.
Under the proposed licence the new restaurant, called Casa Naranjo, would provide late night refreshments, sell alcohol, play recorded music or host live music.
The venue would be able to open between noon and midnight from Sunday to Saturday. Miss Lisk today said they hoped to launch the new tapas restaurant by October.
She said: "It will be Shrewsbury's first dedicated Spanish restaurant. There are a few places like Cafe Frank that do tapas but they are not Spanish restaurants. It will be similar food to Casa Ruiz."
The licence will be determined by Shropshire Council.
