Developers want to build 24 homes on land close to Market Drayton Town's football ground.

The properties would be a mix of two, four and five-bedroom houses and cottages earmarked for land off Greenfields Lane.

Seddons Homes, of Warrington, Cheshire, has lodged a planning application with Shropshire Council. Under the scheme there would also be estate roads, a play area and garages built.

The developer tabled plans last December only to withdraw them in March after planning officers called for amendments to be made to the proposals.

Fifteen of the homes will be for the open market and the remaining nine will be made available as affordable housing.

Meanwhile plans for 35 apartments for elderly residents could be built if proposals get the go-ahead at a planning committee meeting tomorrow.

McCarthy and Stone Retirement Lifestyles Ltd has submitted plans to Shropshire Council to build 35 apartments in Mill Street, Whitchurch.

The site already has full planning permission for 60 apartments with a separate block of 12 affordable flats.

But the applicants have now scaled back the number to reflect the current demand for retirement proprieties.
