A Telford man accused of murdering his 24-year-old daughter today appeared in court. Gurmeet Singh Ubhi, of Berberis Road, Leegomery, spoke only to confirm his name when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

His case had been sent from Telford Magistrates Court where the 53-year-old appeared this month charged with the murder of Amrit Kaur Ubhi.

Mrs Joanne Barker, prosecuting, said: "This case involves one allegation in due course of murder, sent by the lower court on September 10."

The case was adjourned until November 16 for a plea and case management hearing at a court to be fixed and Ubhi was remanded in custody.

Miss Ubhi's body was discovered at the family home in Berberis Road on September 7.

Tributes have previously been paid to Miss Ubhi, who worked at Monsoon in Telford Shopping Centre.

Friends said she was also studying a course at Wolverhampton University and had been in a relationship with her boyfriend, who is in the Armed Forces, for about four years.

Friends and colleagues of Miss Ubhi described her as an "absolutely lovely" person.

They said she was a lovely, petite, bubbly character who was always smiling and always really pleasant.

Staff were brought in from other Monsoon stores to run the town centre store when colleagues were told of her death.

Colleagues said Miss Ubhi was hard working and very conscientious and a "perfectly, lovely, gorgeous young lady who had the rest of her life ahead of her".

They said the shop worker "totally adored" her boyfriend and often talked about her future dreams of marriage and children.
