Muller Dairy has unveiled a £12 million investment in machinery that will see its Shropshire site in Market Drayton producing two billion pots per year.

Muller Dairy UK chief executive, Gharry Eccles said: "Despite having a state-of-the-art dairy production facility in Market Drayton, growing demand for Muller Corner yogurts was beginning to stretch what we could supply.

"The new Finnah line gives a tremendous boost to our capacity and the speed and efficiency with which the project has been completed is a testament to the skills and commitment of our engineering and production teams."

About 600,000 litres of milk are delivered to the site every day, 90 per cent of which come from farms within 30 miles of the dairy.

Muller Dairy continues to develop its programme of supporting farmers to ensure excellence in milk production and a programme enabling dairy staff to spend hundreds of hours volunteering around the county this year.

North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson said: "Muller is a great local success story and I was delighted to hear of Gharry Eccles's plans. The investment that Muller has made in the area is invaluable to the local economy and I wish the company well as it approaches its target of two billion pots."
