Many residents in the town and surrounding villages woke up on Saturday to slow running water from their taps - with some complaining of no supply at all.

The cause of the problem was a burst main on the A495 Ellesmere to Oswestry Road near Ellesmere Business Park.

It was discovered at about 2.30am on Saturday morning. The problem eased throughout the day as customers' water pressure gradually improved.

Residents today they were "fed up" with "frequent" interruptions to their supply.

Lincoln McMullan, chairman of the chamber of commerce, said: "It's a real pain for businesses and residents. Severn Trent pulled up all the pipes by the business park and changed them a few years ago but the problem is still happening."

Gill Dickinson, spokeswoman for Severn Trent Water, said: "A 10-inch burst water main on the A495 caused people in Ellesmere to be without water.

"We discovered the problem about 2.30am on Saturday morning and think it affected quite a few people in the town, although we cannot be certain on numbers.

"We apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused people."
