Two teenage girls burst into a Mid Wales high school disrupting lessons and shouting abuse at staff and pupils, police today said.

Dyfed-Powys Police said two girls entered Welshpool High School earlier this month and burst into a number of classrooms causing disruption to lessons.

Police today said incidents of this nature would not be tolerated and warned others against carrying out such acts.

Antony Topazio, communications officer for Dyfed-Powys Police, said officers were called after reports of two girls going onto school premises and disrupting lessons.

He said the incident happened on September 14.

He said the females entered the school and barged in on several lessons, shouting and being abusive to the staff and pupils who were in lessons at the time.

"This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and is totally unacceptable and we hope that a message has been sent out to those who continually cause a nuisance."

Shocked

Councillor Alan Crowe, from Welshpool, said: "This behaviour just can't be tolerated.

"I'm shocked that it has happened.

"The lessons that were interrupted could have contained new intakes and no matter what the pupil's age would have caused quite a lot of upset."

Mr Topazio said that two girls had been arrested.

He said an 18-year-old girl had been given a police caution and another girl, aged 17, had been charged with causing a nuisance.

She will appear at Welshpool Magistrates Court on October 6.

No-one from Welshpool High School was available for comment today.

But Emma Savage, communications officer for Powys County Council, the local education authority, said an incident had taken place at Welshpool High School.

She said the school had co-operated with the police during their investigations.

Anyone experiencing problems with anti-social behaviour should call Dyfed-Powys Police on 0845 3302000 or 101.
