The man, in his 80s, suffered a head wound after falling from the two-storey house in Wrexham Road, Whitchurch, at about 1pm yesterday.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man was fully conscious when the emergency services arrived and was lucky not to have suffered more serious injuries.
He was put on a spinal board as a precaution before being airlifted to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for treatment.
The spokeswoman said: "The man landed on a brick wall in the front garden of the property and suffered a nasty wound to his head but was remarkably fully conscious and orientated.
"Crews assessed the man's condition and dressed his wound on his head.
"The Midlands Air Ambulance, which had landed in a field behind the property, was utilised to airlift the man to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
"The man arrived at hospital within 10 minutes. The journey by land would have taken approximately 40 minutes.
"It is not known exactly what the man was doing on the roof but he was extremely lucky not to have suffered more serious injuries."
