Councillors have given the go-ahead for two new housing estates to be built in Telford which will between them provide more than 300 homes.

Members of Telford & Wrekin Council's plans board last night approved the building of 234 new properties in Trench Lock.

They also gave outline permission for a separate development for 100 homes to be built in Leegomery.

The Trench Lock plan will see Redrow Homes Ltd build a mixture of detached and terraced homes in Sommerfield Road.

The land at the former Capewell Works site was later used for various manufacturing and warehousing operations but was then levelled and is currently unused.

Members also gave outline planning permission for 100 homes on land off Peregrine Way, Leegomery.

The application was a revised version of a previous one, cutting the maximum number of homes from 200 to 100 and reducing affordable homes from 30 per cent to 20 per cent.

Councillor leader Councillor Andrew Eade said: "We have been involved with the residents of Apley over the last three-and-a-half years. I think what we have arrived at here is an equitable development all round."
