A Shropshire girl faces an anxious wait after being shortlisted for a national competition which could see her local school receive a new play area.

Rebecca Latter, 13, from Whitchurch entered the Design a Fab Den competition, hosted by Fab ice lollies.

Youngsters were encouraged to submit their designs to transform a local community centre, play area or scout hut which was close to their heart.

Rebecca is now calling on the people of Shropshire to vote for her, which will see Lower Heath Primary School, near Whitchurch receive a new den.

She has already won £1,000 to donate to the school.

She impressed judges and beat thousands of other entrants to make it to the final shortlist of 10 after designing a fairytale-themed den which includes drawings of well-known characters, games and a dressing up box.

Rebecca is passionate about fairytale stories and hopes the den will be enjoyed by children throughout the community.

She said: "I'm so excited about my entry being chosen in the final 10 out of so many designs and I'm working really hard to get as many votes as possible.

"Having a den at the Lower Heath Primary School would be really important to me because it would be really good fun for children of all ages. I would love to see my design made into a reality."

James Beaumont, of Fab ice lollies, said: "This is the fourth year we've run our Design a Fab Den competition and the entries continue to get better and better.

"I've been impressed with the creativity of the entrants this year and am pleased that they've all got involved to do something positive for their community."

Rebecca has until October 31 to drum up as much support as she can in the local community.
