Bosses at Ironbridge Gorge Museums have welcomed Chuck the Eco Duck to Shropshire in a bid to educate youngsters about helping the environment.

The animated character was unveiled at Enginuity yesterday.

Ironbridge is best known as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and is also regarded by some as the location where global warming started with the mass use of fossil fuels.

Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust aims, in recognition of this, to make the Gorge one of the greenest inhabited World Heritage Sites on earth.

The museum has partnered Ultra Green Films and Fun Kids radio to introduce the new environmentally friendly character, Chuck the Eco Duck, to Enginuity, Ironbridge's Design and Technology centre.

A new story has been commissioned, Chuck and the Big Bridge, which captures Chuck and his friends on their first visit to Ironbridge in a photo story and shows children all the fascinating sites and museums around the Gorge.

This will be screened to the public for the first time during the February half-term 2011 at Enginuity.

Its launch will coincide with the opening of a new themed soft play area in Enginuity which will feature Chuck and all his friends.
