A £100 reward has been offered for information about a "disgusting" attack in Shropshire on a cat which had wire wrapped round its neck and green paint sprayed in its face.

A member of the public contacted police after seeing an appeal in the Shropshire Star about the incident in Newington Way, Craven Arms, to say they wanted to offer a reward for any information which led to the arrest and conviction of whoever was responsible.

Black and white tabby Merlin returned home early on Monday morning limping and in pain.

He had been sprayed in the face with green paint and had wire wrapped around his neck.

He was not seriously injured and following treatment at the vets is expected to make a full recovery.

His owner Kirsty Ruff has branded those responsible for the attack "disgusting".

The RSPCA has been alerted to the case and is working with Miss Ruff.

The incident is believed to have happened in the local area and anyone who might have information is asked to contact police on 0300 333 3000.
