A celebration of all things Dawley took place in the High Street on Saturday, attended by one of its oldest residents, 98-year-old Clifford Blocksidge.

The High Street was officially reopened following a number of improvements including re-laying pavements and a new bandstand.

Other activities during the day included a farmers' market, face-painting, tai-chi and dance displays.

Civic dignitaries in attendance included Telford & Wrekin Council leader Andrew Eade, deputy mayor of Telford Councillor Joy Francis, and Dawley councillor Vic Tonks.

There was music in the new bandstand throughout the day, with Dawley Church of England school choir and local band Echo 5 performing.

Displays of plans and information relating to the next phase of the regeneration were also on show, with contractors Birse Civils on hand to answer any questions.

Event organiser Helen Williams said that she was delighted people had turned out in force on the day to celebrate and support the start of the new Dawley.

She said: "Dawley has a lot to celebrate now with the huge improvements in the High Street.

"It was great to see people and families, young and old, come together to celebrate Dawley past and present."
