Ambitious £500,000 plans to double the size of a supermarket in a south Shropshire town have met with objections.

People living near the Harry Tuffins store in Church Street, Bishop's Castle, claim the scheme will lead to more noise and increased traffic from delivery goods.

They also object to plans to open the store an hour earlier at 7am on Sundays and claim that it will do nothing to alleviate parking congestion in Church Street.

Bosses at the supermarket chain want to change part of a car workshop into a warehouse for the supermarket, install a goods lift and provide six extra car parking spaces.

They claim the move could create up to five jobs.

Five residents have sent in objections, claiming the town does not need a bigger supermarket and that the move could pose a threat to small independent traders.

They also claim the site is near a hazardous crossroads used by schoolchildren and elderly people.

Councillors have been advised to approve the plans at Shropshire Council's south planning committee on Tuesday.

The planning committee will meet at Ludlow Town Football Club's SBS Stadium and the meeting will start at 2pm.
