A new one-way system in Welshpool will not be in operation until the new year, it was revealed today.
A major overhaul of the town's aging gas system has left motorists frustrated over the last six weeks with disruptions to Church Street initially scheduled to only last four weeks.
But more unforeseen work will now be required and the road will be closed from December 6 - the day the one-way system was due to be opened.
Robert Robinson, town clerk, said: "I have also met with Powys County Council and they still need to put notices up regarding changing bus stops because they will need to be moved .
"It is really not ideal and I am not happy about it, but it has to be done, so the one-way system will now be ready to open on January 12."
However, Mr Robinson had some good news about an additional service at the new Tesco which will now include a 24-hour petrol station for credit card users out of the normal manned hours of 7am to 10pm.
