Gurmeet Singh Ubhi, of Leegomery, Telford, appeared at Stafford Crown Court where he denied killing Amrit Kaur Ubhi at Berberis Road on September 7. Ubhi, in a white shirt and grey jacket and flanked by two security guards, spoke only to confirm his name and to deny the charge during the hearing. Mr Justice Butterfield set a trial date for February 2 at Leicester Crown Court. The case was adjourned and Ubhi was remanded in custody.

Miss Ubhi's body was discovered at the detached property in Berberis Road where she lived with her 53-year-old father and her mother Satender Kaur Ubhi.
A post mortem showed Miss Ubhi, who was a student at Wolverhampton University and also worked at Monsoon in Telford Shopping Centre, died as a result of strangulation.
