A horse which became trapped in its stable in Shropshire had to be rescued by firefighters today.

Six-year-old Pine Nuts, which belongs to former Shropshire High Sheriff Anna Turner, got his front legs stuck over a stable door in Prees Heath, near Whitchurch.

The drama unfolded just before 6.30am and firefighters from Whitchurch, Wellington and Shrewsbury spent about two hours cutting away the door hinges after the animal was sedated by vets.

Mike Beach, watch manager at Whitchurch fire station, said: "It was quite unusual as the horse had its front legs over the front of the stable door but its rear legs were still inside.

"We're not sure how he got astride the gate because the owners said he's usually a quiet horse."
