Welshpool's new outdoor market will open a month later than expected, councillors said today.

Welshpool Town Council hoped to open the street market every Monday from January, but it will now be during late February.

Robert Robinson, council clerk, said it would open once work on the town's one-way system and Tesco store had been completed.

He said: "The one-way system is now due to open early in January and approximately one month after that the street market can return to Broad Street and High Street."

He said plans had been well supported by residents and councillors.

"The Monday market has its consent to come back onto the main street. The town hasn't had a street market for a number of years, so it will be nice to see it return."

Traders who wish to book a space on the main street or find out more should call the town clerk's office on (01938) 553142 or e-mail wtcouncil@btinternet.com
