Wine expert Oz Clarke and comedian Hugh Dennis were treated to a squirrel supper when they visited a historic pub on the south Shropshire border as part of a new TV series which will be aired in the new year.

The duo tried the local delicacy at the Sun Inn in Leintwardine as part of the annual Mayor's Squirrel Supper at the venue's Red Brick bar.

It will be shown on BBC2 as part of the new series "Oz and Hugh Raise the Bar" on January 2 at 8pm.

Every year a squirrel casserole is prepared for the pub's 'mayor', a title bestowed by pub regulars each year, and former mayors. The current mayor is Mike Rix.

Former mayors include ex-landlady Flossie Lane, current landlord Gary Seymour and Hobson the Dog.

The casserole was prepared by village butcher and alderman Doug Griffiths, and Oz and Hugh also sampled local real ales from Hobson's Brewery, wine from Tanners and the Sun Inn's unique "Findhorn River" malt whisky.

More than £200 was raised for various charities, including Help for Heroes.

Mr Seymour said: "It was an excellent night and both Oz and Hugh really entered into the spirit of the event and were really good fun."
