People living near Shropshire's orthopaedic hospital have raised concerns at revamp plans. Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital wants to build a new main entrance and car park and demolish nurses' accommodation.

The plans have been submitted to Shropshire Council - but some neighbours are objecting as they fear increased traffic.

Resident Neville Owens said he had "serious concerns" about the plan, including proposals for a new car park entrance.

He said: "This is directly opposite my property and driveway and would make entering and exiting extremely difficult and hazardous, especially at peak times as I would be directly moving across the junction and also it concentrates traffic around a residential area."

Resident Ian Meredith has also written to the council with concerns about the proximity of the proposed car park entrance to his property, saying he was worried about the amount of artificial light which would be used to light the car park.

In the planning papers lodged with the council, hospital bosses said the refurbishment would allow better access to the Gobowen-based hospital for patients and provide an improved central reception area.

It says the improvements will give patients a clear access and egress point.

Hospital trust board members were told at a meeting last month the new entrance would also ensure the easier flow of patients.

The application is expected to be determined in March.
