24-hour repair pledge on Shropshire danger potholes

Council bosses in Shropshire today assured drivers the most dangerous potholes would be filled in within 24 hours of being reported. It comes after weeks of treacherous weather and constant gritting.

Council bosses in Shropshire today assured drivers the most dangerous potholes would be filled in within 24 hours of being reported. It comes after weeks of treacherous weather and constant gritting.

More and more potholes have emerged on the county's roads causing motoring misery.

But bosses at Telford & Wrekin Council and Shropshire Council today said any dangerous potholes reported to them would be filled in by the end of the next working day.

All other potholes will be prioritised and dealt with according to their severity.

Both councils have said potholes will be filled as they happen and are reported.

Bob Ellis, Shropshire Council's head of environmental maintenance, said when lorry drivers at Shropshire Council were not out gritting the roads, they were being sent to look for dangerous potholes.

He said: "We encourage people to report potholes to us on 0345 6789006.

"We will begin structural patching, which provides a more permanent repair, as soon as the weather gets warmer."

Nathan Wallis, spokes-man for the Highways Agency, said the M54 would also be fixed on a rolling scheme.

Councillor Adrian Law-rence, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for environment and rural, said: "We have four teams available to repair potholes and members of the public are welcome to report any potholes they are aware of."
