A group of young men attacked a van on a Shropshire road while the driver sat inside, police said today.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened in Shrewsbury Road, Craven Arms, on Saturday at about 1pm.

Sergeant Adrian Woolley appealed for anyone who saw the incident to contact him on 0300 333 3000.

He said: "It seems a group of three or four young men approached the vehicle as it was travelling slowly along the road.

"The van came to a stop and an altercation began in which the vehicle was kicked and struck, causing damage to the bodywork."

Mr Woolley said the vehicle was a white Renault van being driven by a man who was not injured. There was also a passenger in the van.

"This was a conspicuous incident in which threats were also made to the occupants of the van," he said.

A 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old youth have been arrested in connection with the incident and released on conditional police bail.

In a separate incident, a number of young men were assaulted at two locations in Craven Arms on Friday at about 9pm.

Three were attacked by three men on the junction of Corvedale Road with the A49 and at the same time, three others were assaulted by another three men outside the public toilets in Shrewsbury Road.
