It's official - Ludlow's outdoor market has been named as the best of its kind in the country.

The market, in the town square near Ludlow Castle, was named the best local authority market in the country by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) yesterday.

And award organisers said they created a new award for Ludlow Market to reflect the high standard of the town's entry.

A spokeswoman from NABMA, which is based in Oswestry, said: "They had entered the best small market category but their entry was so good a new award was created for it. This category is something they are going to continue thanks to the standard of the entry."

A public event in the town square on February 5 will celebrate the win.

Chris Bayliss, markets and special projects officer at Ludlow Town Council, said: "We've done a lot of hard work over the last 18 months to get the market where it is today."

There is market in Ludlow every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with specialist markets on most Thursdays and Sundays.
