Brides-to-be can tie the knot for a recession-busting £1,000 at a Shropshire country hotel which is extending a special offer due to popular demand.

More than 50 couples enjoyed their nuptials at the Old Rectory Hotel, in Wem, last year and with the economic slump taking hold many took advantage of the "grand wedding for a grand" offer.

With economic woes showing no signs of letting up, bosses are renewing the deal.

The £1,000 wedding reception package includes hosting the wedding service itself, professional photography and a reception for the guests set in the tranquil surroundings of the historic hotel in Lowe Hill Road.

Hotel manager Selina Cuss said: "During this tough economic climate we hosted a trial promotion and were simply amazed at how many couples were interested.

"So this year we decided to extend our facilities and offer a complete, yet very cost-conscious package to couples looking to tie the knot.

"Couples from as far afield as Yorkshire and the West Midlands, as well as many local families, have taken up the offer.

"The positive feedback and gratitude from bridal couples has been very rewarding indeed and we are proud to have managed to tailor each event to their individual needs and requirements."

She added; "The 'grand wedding' idea has proved to be a real success story, not only for our business but also by introducing many new people to Wem and the many tourism sites and attractions in the area."
