A Telford father accused of strangling his 24-year-old daughter today told a murder trial they had not spoken in the five months before her death.
Gurmeet Singh Ubhi, 54, giving evidence for the first time, said he had not spoken to 24-year-old Amrit Kaur Ubhi since an argument between them in May last year.
Ubhi denies murdering his daughter at the family home on Berberis Road, Leegomery, on September 7 last year.
It is claimed Ubhi strangled his daughter during a row over how loud she had the TV.
Today the jury at Leicester Crown Court also heard how Ubhi failed to use his first aid skills to try and save his daughter.
In an interview with police, Ubhi said his physical state after a struggle between the pair, in which she collapsed, prevented him from helping her.
In the police interview, read to the court by prosecutor Miss Joanne Barber, Ubhi said: "After the fight I was very shocked personally."
He said: "I was just in shock myself, mostly physically, so nothing else was coming to mind, apart from that she's dead and there's nothing I can do. Yes I did have a lot of courses in first aid but in that state it's nothing."
After taking the stand, Miss Barber asked Ubhi: "When was the last time you spoke to your daughter?"
Speaking through an interpretor, Ubhi said: "We had not spoken since an argument in May about a biscuit tin and a photograph and gas and electric bills as well."
The jury has previously heard how Ubhi told police he had cleared up the mess in the house after the incident, got changed and drove to a police station.
