Staff from 24 charities and voluntary groups across the county spent the day at RAF Shawbury to try out daredevil challenges like a high ropes course and rock climbing.

Those attending the recent event included representatives from the Roy Fletcher Centre in Shrewsbury, North Salop Wheelers community bus scheme and Oswestry Community Action.

The day was organised by RAF staff in conjunction with Shropshire Council.

The event was designed to take the voluntary sector workers out of their comfort zone by putting them through a host of leadership and development exercises in the sports hangar and other facilities at the airbase.

The exercises included the high ropes course and development exercises designed to help the visitors work as a team.

During the day the teams took part in rope exercises on the indoor course in the sports hangar.

The challenge included climbing a pole 30 feet off the ground and launching themselves to try and grab a nearby trapeze.

Other exercises included taking on the indoor firing range under the guidance of the Station Regiment Flight and completing leadership exercises with the Force Development Flight.
