A woman, two children and two cats were rescued from their Mid Wales home in the early hours of today after a fire broke out in the hallway.

The family was rescued by firefighters after the fire started at about 5.15am, Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said.

The incident happened at an end terrace house in Highway Court, Brookland Road, Llandrindod Wells.

Neither the family or the cats were injured and the fire was confined to the hallway.

A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a house fire at 5.15am and had to rescue a woman, two children and their two cats from the first floor.

"The fire was small and confined to the hallway and only minimal damage was caused to the home.

"Neither the family or the pets were injured and they managed to return to their home this morning."

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: "I was awoken by the arrival of the fire service and watched as they quickly got the family out by ladder.

"It is very scary seeing this happen on your road, but the fire service acted very quickly in getting them out safely and then putting the fire out.

"It was all over within half an hour and it is a great relief to hear that nobody was hurt."
