A Shropshire hotel has struck a deal with bosses at the National Trust to entice more visitors to explore the county.

Albrighton Hall Hotel and Spa, near Shrewsbury, is offering the special package this spring. Guests booking one night's bed and breakfast at the four-star hotel will receive free entry for two adults to visit one of over 200 National Trust properties. It is hoped the offer will bring more visitors to the county in the run up to the busy summer months.

The hotel chain said the offer would also give visitors to Shropshire the opportunity to explore some of the unique town and countryside places in the surrounding area.

The hotel is one of more than 30 Mercure hotels in the UK taking part in the offer, which runs from March 1 to May 31.

With packages starting from £79 for two people, the offer has been designed to suit all tastes and budgets.

In addition, guests staying at a Mercure hotel who use their National Trust/Mercure admission pass can enjoy two months' free membership when taking out an annual membership, simply by redeeming the pass on arrival.

Nicky Brundell, sales office manager at the hotel, said she hoped the offer would boost the leisure and tourism sectors locally.

She said: "It will promote the local area and goes on right through the school holidays and bank holidays so we are hoping it will benefit local attractions like Attingham Park and others."

Melissa Micallef, marketing manager for Mercure, said: "Mercure hotels are set in the heart of historic cities and in scenic countryside full of fascinating places just waiting to be discovered.

"This provides the perfect opportunity to explore some of the UK's most beautiful historic houses and gardens this spring and enjoy time well spent together with family and friends — combining memorable days with a relaxing stay."
