Shropshire professional Jonathan Gidney will attempt to revive memories of his days as an England amateur international in next week's Sunningdale Foursomes, writes James Garrison.

Gidney has teamed up with amateur John Kelly - both play out of Church Stretton - in recent years at the alternate shot event.

But he has joined forces with fellow professional Miles Mackman for the 2011 staging which begins on Tuesday.

"I'm really looking forward to it," said Gidney, who is planning a second year on the EuroPro Tour.

"Myself and Miles were part of an England team playing in an international tournament in Costa Ballena in Spain two years ago and we managed to win all our foursomes matches. Hopefully we can have a long run."

The county interest in the early-season event at Sunningdale doesn't end with Gidney.

James Busby, professional at the Shropshire Golf Centre, teams up with Gareth Davies of Abbeydale.

And rising star Alexandra Peters - who continues to play for Nottinghamshire but is now based at Shifnal - competes alongside fellow England youngster Kelly Tidy of Royal Birkdale.

The Sunningdale Foursomes is open to men and women, professionals and amateurs.
