Campaigners fighting plans which could involve massive pylons being built through Shropshire and Mid Wales will stage a public meeting next week.

Villagers in Meifod, near Welshpool, are being urged to attend the meeting on Tuesday to discuss how the pylons will affect the village.

It comes days after National Grid bosses announced they would be holding consultation events across Mid Wales to find a potential route for a 400,000 volt cable using 26-metre high pylons.

Public consultation on the plans, which includes a power station being built in either Abermule, near Montgomery, or Cefn Coch, near Llanfair Caereinion, started earlier this week.

And it will also continue in Shropshire with a consultation meeting at Baschurch Village Hall on April 1 from 2pm to 8pm. A total of 48 public exhibitions will be held with one at Meifod Village Hall on April 11.

Councillor Jonathan Wilkinson, of Meifod Community Council, said: "I don't think a lot of people are aware of what is actually being planned, so the community council will be staging a public meeting to help raise awareness.

"There are 10 possible routes for this cable and some could involve Meifod."

He urged people to attend the meeting at the Cobra Rugby Club in Meifod on Tuesday at 7.30pm.
